Lust Have It - September

So I went away for a few days and came back to find the delightful little package, which is the Lust Have It box. I always look forward to receiving one each month, to see what new products are there to try and what surprises they have in store for me.

In case you don't know, Lust Have it is a subscription box service with packages available with payment per month $19.95, or in lots of 3, 6 or 12 months.

For this months box, the theme was "Spring Fling".

This is what was in this month's box:

Wotnot - Natural Organic Facial Wipes - Sample (5 wipes)
RRP $7.95 for 24 wipes
I have received these wipes before and I don't dislike them. Although I'm not a huge fan of using wipes, there is the odd occasion when they are called for and as wipes go, these are quite good. They seem to remove make-up and leave the skin feeling fresh, yet nourished. Good to keep on the go or for festivals or for those lazy late nights home when you just need something to get the makeup off before falling in a heap.

Mary Kay - Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover - Sample (29ml)
RRP $22 for 110ml
At the moment I'm currently using the Simple Eye Make up remover and am quite happy with it, however with some waterproof products I find I need to let the soaked cotton pad sit on my eye to ease off the makeup. I'm looking forward to trying this eye makeup remover and test it with my waterproof products. The thing I really enjoy with the Simple solution, is that there is no irritation on my eyes, so I'm hoping this is also the case with the Mary Kay!

L'Oreal - Base Magique Primer - Sample ( 5ml)
RRP $29.95 for 15ml
This is another product which I have tried before in a previous sample. It's a good primer with a silicone base that sits on the skin and doesn't ball up like some do. It lasts quite well and is a good every day primer with no offensive smell.

L'Oreal - Infaliable Make-up Liquid Foundation - Sample (1ml)
RRP $33.95 for 30ml
I was hoping to try the other L'Oreal product that was included in some boxes - the Nude Magique BB cream. Unfortunately this liquid foundation sample was received in shade 140 Golden Beige, which is way too dark for my porcelain skin. However, in saying this, I use these samples to get a feel of the texture, coverage and blend-ability and even add my white base to see how it works.

Bioderma - Sebium Foaming Gel - Sample (10ml)
RRP $29.95 for 500ml
I am yet to try many products from Bioderma, but what I have tried I have liked. I'm not a huge fan of gel cleansers as I find many of them drying on my skin, however this product claims to be non-irritating and reduce sebum secretion. I would think this is implying it is non-drying then because if it were, it would only exacerbate sebum secretion..? I guess we shall see..

Bioderma - Sebium AKN - Sample ( 5ml)
RRP $24.95 for 30ml
This is another product I haven't tried from Bioderma, but sounds like it is suited to me. It claims to prevent deterioration and thickening of sebum to reduce the appearance and development of imperfections. I'm not entirely sure how these claims will play out, bit it will be interesting to see how the product works with my skin nether-the-less.

Baji - Super-Nutri Rescue Eye Serum - Full Size
RRP $39.00 for 15ml
A welcome full size product in this box and it's an Australian made by Baji. The serum is very light and refreshing with a non offensive smell. Even though I'm still young enough to get away with not caring about anti-aging products, I still think prevention and proper skin care in your younger years is key. Now this product claims to help fight against wrinkles, black circles and puffiness around the eyes. I don't know about you, but even though I'm in my early 20's I suffer from black circles and occasionally puffiness around my eyes, so I'm hoping this product is the answer to my prayers!

Lust Have It - Synthetic Precision Pencil Brush
RRP $15.00
This is quite a soft small pointed brush that would be particularly great for precision placement of pigments or colour. I'll be interested to see how it's blending abilities play out and whether there is much fall out of the bristles. This could also potentially be great for spot concealing and due to its synthetic  bristles can be used on cream and also powder products.

TOM - Organic Regular Tampons - Sample (x2)
RRP $7.99 for 16
This is a bonus product in this months box and I'm pretty sure it's self explanatory for many of you out there. It says it's biodegradable, certified organic cotton and free from chemicals and bleaches, so may be a godsend for those of you who have particular allergies or reactions to certain compounds.

Overall this month I'm quite pleased. Didn't quite live up to how great last months box was, but still quite a few products to try and put to the test. A sneak peak for next months box is that full size Inika cosmetics product for every subscriber will be included! So if you are like me and haven't tried Inika before, it may be a great oportunity to sign up and see how they perform.

Did you receive the same as me? How did your box compare?

John Plunkett's Sunspot Cream - Review - Acne Treatment

So one night I found myself trawling aimlessly on the interweb (more of an every night thing..) looking for products containing salicylic acid. After having some luck with the Paula's Choice Extra Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution I thought I would try and find a spot treatment for when those pesky spots arise and also to diminish the red marks left behind. Of course I am wanting to purchase a full size of the Paula's Choice, when funding permits, but for the meanwhile I was hopeful to find something a little closer to home that would be a bit gentler to my cash-strapped bank account.

Anyway, as I was saying I was on the hunt and found myself on the chemist warehouse website looking at the John Plunketts Sunspot cream (and yes I was looking at EVERYTHING). Now this may sound like an odd place to land when looking for a Salicylic acid treatment for acne prone skin and you are probably right. However, once you look into the properties of Salicylic acid and what it does, it might just sound a little less strange. Something which you may not realise is that Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid, or BHA and so causes cell of the epidermis to shed more readily, opens clogged pores and neutralises bacteria within. In saying this, due to the shedding of skin cells, if you have dark skin be careful using salicylic acid products as you might end up with some hyper-pigmentation, but on the other hand it can also help diminish hyper-pigmentation for some. So best to test on a small patch of skin to begin with if you have dark or very sensitive skin.

So back to this cream! This sunspot cream by John Plunkett contains 5% Salicylic acid, which if you put in perspective the Paula's Choice had 2%. So it seemed to have the making of quite the effective little spot treatment! It also contains 5% Urea, which is known to moisturise and soften the skin, with it often being used to treat Eczema and dermatitis.

Claims:

From the John Plunkett Website:
"
  • Sunspot Cream is an exclusive formula that works gradually to remove the sun damaged layers of skin.
  • These layers are then replaced by healthy new skin.
  • Its ingredients assist in nourishing and restoring skin to a clear condition. "

Ingredients:

I couldn't find a complete list of the ingredients anywhere, just that it contains 5% Salicylic acid and 5% Urea.

So here's the run down:

Price: I purchased from Chemist Warehouse for $17.39

Weight: 100g

Packaging: Round plastic tub with screw off lid

Consistency: Thick creamy consistency

Fragrance: A non offensive smell, very similar to sorbolene cream.

Application: After washing and toning my face I apply this cream at night as a treatment on acne areas or if I have a spot coming up. I leave it on overnight and cleanse my face in the  morning. When you first put the cream on, there might be a slight stingy sensation, but this fades quite quickly and that's the only discomfort noted. Despite this feeling, which is just the salicylic acid doing it's thing, I was worried it might dry out my skin, but the urea definitely does it's little thing too.

Finish: I find this cream will sink easily into the skin, so you could wear it under make-up. It doesn't peel or leave any coloured residue, unlike a lot of treatments I have tried.

Overall impressions: I am glad I stumbled across this product on a whim. It's a great spot treatment that helps diminish and reduce any acne spots I may have. Due to the simplicity of this product and the elimination of any scent or perfume, I find I do not have a reaction or become red from using this product. I would highly recommend you try out this product if you find salicylic acid works for you. At $17.39 for 100g, this is a huge amount of product for the price, that you would be hard pressed for find anything similar for the same value. So overall, I'm very happy with this product. It helps eliminate redness, spots and acne marks on my face and doesn't leave it feeling dry, tight or dehydrated. I recommend giving this product a go, however exercise a bit of caution. Don't use too close to the eye area (which you shouldn't do with a lot of other treatments anyway) and use a test spot if you have very sensitive skin.

Have you got a go to spot treatment or tried this?

iBeauty Cosmetics - Eyeshadows - Swatches and Review

So I have a confession to make.... I like to surround myself with pretty things. Am I materialistic? Perhaps. Is it satisfying? Thoroughly! In my ideal world I would have a Sex and The City Walk-in-Wardrobe and a floor to ceiling wall cabinet for my make-up. Obviously a girl can dream, so I do what I can to satiate my hunger for pretty little things. So when I heard about an Australian based company called iBeauty Cosmetics (through a Lust Have it box?) and that they do customisable eye shadow palettes.. how could I say no?

So basically on their website you can choose from 81 eyeshadow shades and either buy them separately and in a palettes of 4, 12 or 28 and they offer free shipping in Australia for orders over $20. Having so many eyeshadow's can be great, but it also was hard to pick from so many pretty shades (eek!). I faced the time old dilemma of which one to choose over the other. So, not wanting to say no to any of them, I decided that I wanted, no needed, them all (it was tough!). I have to add, that Luisa from iBeauty offers excellent customer service and very quick replies to any queries, so that was really the cherry on top in deciding to place such a large order and helped ease any nerves I had about buying so many this brand. If that didn't completely set you at ease, they also have a 100% money back guarantee if you don't get along or don't enjoy their products.

Claims:

From the iBeauty Cosmetics website:
"iBeauty Cosmetic eyeshadows are incredibly smooth to apply and long wearing. The eyeshadow refills come in 81 stunningly richly pigmented colours."

Possible Dupes:

Obviously I don't own all MAC eyeshadow's, but from gauging by Karla Sugar's swatches, there are quite a few possible dupes. (If you have any suggestions I will start a list of them :) )

So here's the run down:

Price: Depends on whether you buy them separately from iBeauty Cosmetics, or a palette of 4, 12 or 28.

Weight: Each eyeshadow is 1.5g, which is the same as MAC eyeshadows

Packaging: Again, it depends how you buy them, I purchased mine in palettes of 28 which are plastic palettes with clip closing lid and magnetic base to ensure the eyeshadow's don't fall out.

Consistency: Creamy and Smooth pigments

Fragrance: No noticeable scent or fragrance.

Application: Depending on the look you want to achieve, I either apply the eyeshadow with the MAC 224, Bdellium 787 or Real Techniques Domed Shadow brush to define the crease or the MAC 233 or a flat paddle brush to pack on colour. If you are after an even more intense look you can either gently spray the brush you are using with a bit of water and then pack on colour from the pan or use a sealing gel, such as the one from Illamasqua.

Longevity: Having oily eyelids, I always use either an eyeshadow primer to Maybelline Colour tattoo to prime my eyelids before adding eyeshadow. If you don't have oily eyelids, you can expect the shadows to stay put most of the day, but I like the security of priming my lids to ensure longevity all day.

Colour Range: I'm sure you can see from the swatches that there is an extensive colour range to suit everyone.

Finish: In this collection from iBeauty Cosmetics, they have matte, frost and pearl finishes so you can create any look your heart desires.

Overall impressions: I am extremely happy with my purchase from iBeauty Cosmetics. The overall experience for me was flawless, from the ordering process, customer service, packaging the eye shadow's were received in and, of course, the quality of the eye shadow's. I would highly recommend giving them a go, whether you buy some single pans to have a dabble or work your way up to the entire collection!

Have you tried these eyeshadows? Which are your favourite shades? Any dupes you've found?
