A Hue For Any Age - By Terry Rouge Terrybly Lipsticks

It was a sad day when I was ill-informed that certain shades were only for certain skin tones. It felt like lipstick censorship and I rebelled against it. For me, I was told pale skins really shouldn't wear those bold shades, as it would look garish and clown like.

But really life is too short to worry about such nonsense. Lipsticks can be changed so easily it's silly to fret for too long about whether you can "pull it off". How do you know, unless you try it? It's a similar debate I've faced when shopping with my mum and when talking to other lovely mature ladies. There is a sense among them that once you hit a certain age, you must put away that bright fushia shade and stick to purely neutrals. Luckily I managed to sway my own mother and I have to say brighter shades look fabulous on her, and ironically more youthful! Of course the only thing I will say is that formulation is very important. Matte lipsticks, even though I love them for their longevity, can give away any textural issues even on the smoothest of lips. It's also important to keep in mind that when wearing bolder shades you may need to add a touch more blush to your cheeks to balance out the overall look.

So when a fellow Youtuber/Blogger Karima from Shameless Fripperies (link), vowed her love for the By Terry Rouge Terrybly lipsticks I had to try them. And... I'm so glad I did!

I picked up the shades 300 Cupid Peony (a cool toned pink) and the highly recommended 200 Frenetic Vermilion (a more orange leaning red).

The formulation is what I'd call luxurious and universally forgiving. It doesn't exacerbate dry patches, it's creamy - but at the same time, not overly so. They are perfectly pigmented with the right amount of staying power, a satin finish and the shades are gorgeous. These are lipsticks that are worth the investment. The packaging is also divine, with its sleek silver bullet and magnetic closing lids - if you are going to spend $66 in Australia for a lipstick (link) I want the whole experience.

These are the lipsticks that are a pure pleasure to own and, regardless of your age, I can highly recommend them.
